The Community Development Department manages Covington’s economic development services. Staff members in this department have expertise in housing, economic development, neighborhood outreach and long-range planning. They are dedicated to implementing the Covington Comprehensive Plan, which will guide the city’s growth for decades.
The Community Development Department is successful because of its expertise and because of open-minded, practical and sensible city government policies and leadership. A seven-member City Council, including the Mayor, is responsible for establishing policy, passing local ordinances, and developing a vision for the city. The City Manager oversees day-to-day operations and implements policies established by the Council. Resident participation is encouraged and suggestions for change and new opportunities are often included in the government decision-making process.
The City is also a partner with Green River College’s Small Business Assistance Center (SBAC) which provides technical assistance to small businesses in Covington and South King County areas. The SBAC provides counseling sessions at no cost, workshops/classes and other business resources.
