Frequently Asked Questions
What is included in my registration? Each player will receive 8 games (7 - volleyball & spring soccer) and a team dri-fit jersey. They will also receive an end of season certificate. Players must provide their own specific equipment.
How do I register? You can register online or by calling the Covington Aquatics Center at 253-480-2480.
How do I sign up to coach? All of our coaches are volunteers, and as long as we have room, we would welcome anyone that wants to volunteer and coach. All volunteers are subject to annual background checks. The coaching application can be found at www.covingtonwa.gov/athletics/coaches.php
How do I receive the 50% head coaches discount? Head coaches receive a 50% discount on their child's registration. To receive the discount, a completed coaching application must be emailed to email@example.com. Wait until you receive a confirmation email before registering to ensure discount gets applied.
Do you offer scholarships for those in need? Yes, Covington Parks & Recreation’s scholarship and fee waiver program is available to those who qualify for the free or reduced lunch program through the school district. When are practices? Teams will have one weekday evening practice per week. Practices generally last one hour depending on the division. Practice days and times are decided by the team’s volunteer coach. If you have practice restrictions and are not sure if you can play, you could volunteer to coach the team and then can pick the practice day and time that works for your schedule.
When are games? Games will be played on Saturdays at local schools and parks. Soccer and flag football will have the occasional weekday game.
Can I play with my friends? Friend requests can be included when registering and we will try our best to place you together but requests are not guaranteed.
Can I request a specific coach? Coach requests can be included but again, they are not guaranteed.
Can I switch teams? No, it is very difficult to switch teams. If you are placed on a team that you do not like or that has practices on nights you cannot attend, we will do everything we can to find another team, but will also offer a refund.
Can I move up a division? You must request to move up and it will be up to the Athletics Specialist to decide if that request can be fulfilled.
I can’t practice the night my team’s coach chose. What should I do? Very rarely will openings develop on other teams and you MIGHT (we stress, MIGHT!) be able to change teams. E-mail the Athletics Specialist at firstname.lastname@example.org to see if a change can be done.
How much playing time can my child expect? We strive to get all players 50% playing time during the course of each game.
Can I request a refund? Refunds must be requested before the first practice. There will be a $10 transaction fee for refunds. If you break a bone or have another medical reason that happens during the season we cannot issue a refund. Be sure to review our refund policy listed on the City’s website.
When will the game schedule be posted? The game schedule will be posted usually a month prior to the first game. We know it is hard to plan with only a month notice but we appreciate your patience. Schedules are posted at www.teamsideline.com/covingtonwa
When will I hear from my coach? We will have our sport-specific volunteer coach meeting a minimum of two weeks prior to our first practice. After the coach meeting, we will hand out rosters for coaches to begin communicating with their teams.
What if I don’t hear from my coach? Contact the parks and rec office at 253-480-2489 or at email@example.com.
How do I hear about cancellations due to the weather? The weather hotline is updated weekly, 253-480-2490.
Do I have to live in Covington or go to a Covington school to play? No, you do not. We accept anyone and everyone, no matter location.
What do I need to bring?
SOCCER: A soccer ball with your child’s name on it and a water bottle should be brought to all practices and games. Cleats are highly recommended, but not required (no cleats with toe stud). Shin guards must be worn, under socks, during all games.
BASKETBALL: A basketball with your child’s name on it, water bottle and tennis shoes with non-marking soles should be brought to all practices and games.
FLAG FOOTBALL: Water bottle, athletic shorts (no pockets) and mouth guard must be brought to all practices and games. Cleats are highly recommended, but not required.
BASEBALL: Water bottle, hat, a glove with your child's name on it, and cleats recommended but not required.
VOLLEYBALL: Water bottle, knee pads, athletic nonmarking shoes.
Is jewelry allowed? No. There is no body jewelry allowed in our athletic programs and must be removed prior to playing. This includes bracelets, rings, watches, casts (soft and hard), necklaces, and earrings, etc.
