The City of Covington’s Parks and Recreation Department is now open for registration for Fall classes. Programs will run from September-December. We encourage participants to register early for a program you would like to join. Please call the Covington Parks and Recreation Office at (253) 480-2480  or click on the activity below to register.

Audubon Annual Bird Count:
Participate in the Audubon Society’s Annual Bird Count with experienced bird counters. The walk will begin at Gary Grant Park at 13660 SE 208th Street in Kent.

Safety Classes:
Safe At Home:
This two hour course is designed for children ages 8-12 to learn about potential dangers when home alone. Learn how to be responsible and safe in any situation. We cover family communication, first aid, internet, gun, phone, fire, and door safety.

Super Sitters:
Boys and girls, come for a day of fun while earning your Super Sitters Certificate. This class will cover leadership, the business of babysitting, basic care for children, understanding children of different age groups, safety, and fist aid. Bring a sack lunch and snack to class.

After School Art Classes:
Cheetah After School Art:
Join us on early release Wednesdays for creative art time. Bring our imagination and love of art! We will create a new project each week. Register early as this class does fill up quickly! This class is only available for Cedar Valley Elementary School students.

After School Origami:
In this one-hour class, you will make at least two fun origami projects on early release Wednesdays. Origami is a great way of visualizing shapes, building math skills, following directions, growing interpersonal skills and developing fine motor skills. Themes: September – Space; October – Star Wars; November – Traditional; December – Action.

Rock ‘N’ More Group Guitar Class:
Learn guitar and hone your skills in a fun group setting with Dace’s Rock ‘N’ More Music Academy. Students will learn basic music and guitar fundamentals while learning how to play popular sings. Guitars will be provided for each student.

Preschool Programs:
Playtime Pals:
Enjoy time with your child singing, learning, getting messy, and playing in an inclusive preschool class led by an early childhood specialist. Children will develop friendships with a wide variety of peers, some of whom have special needs.

Preschool Stories and Paper Crafts:
Come listen to several short stories, sing songs, and best of all, make your own fun origami project each session. This class is for young children and their parents.

Holiday Chocolate Camp:
Join Monty Simpson with the Traveling Chocolate Company on a journey where you will learn to make your own Christmas confections. After learning to melt and temper chocolate, we will move to dipping and decorating creams, caramels, truffle centers, and more into hand-made candies suitable for Christmas gifts. All ages and abilities are welcome to participate.

HELE Photography:
Become a photographer with Hele! Students will master camera operations and practice skills to capture beautiful artistic photos on a journey to develop their own photography business. We will explore landscape photography, portraiture, action shots, and still life photography through immersive activities and art critiques. Students will learn how to establish their brand and build a polished portfolio of digital images to market online while developing social media safety skills! This course includes a 6-month subscription to the Hele Hui, where students interact with one another in weekly challenges. Pre-Ballet – 3-5 years:
This is an introductory dance class for 3-5 year olds, full of fun, music, and moving! Your blossoming dancer will have a blast learning the basics of Ballet. The fundamentals of body awareness, coordination, rhythm, and beginning terminology will be introduced. Ballet shoes are required.

Dance Combo I – 5-7 Years:
This is a beginning dance class for students ages 5-7. Dancers will learn to properly execute classical and contemporary dance steps and techniques. They will also train to understand rhythm and musicality. Ballet or jazz shoes are required.

Dance Combo II – 8-12 Years:
Dance Combo II is a fun class for 8-12 year olds, that includes a variety of dance genres. Dancers will learn beginning ballet, jazz, and pom techniques, as well as learn more advanced skills and tricks. Ballet or jazz shoes are required.

South Elite Rec Cheer:
Students will learn dances, cheers and beginning tumbling in this class. There will be opportunities to perform too! The team will perform at community events like football games, basketball game half-times, showcases, and local parades and festivals. There is a one-time fee to be paid to South Elite for a performance outfit.

Auburn Gymnastics Tiny Stars – 1-3 Years:
This class is designed to introduce coordination, physical development, and socialization to young gymnasts. This class also includes parent participation!

Auburn Gymnastics Mini Stars – 4-5 Years:
In this class, gymnasts will be introduced to the basic concepts of gymnastics, balance, and strength in a fun filled environment.

Auburn Gymnastics Mighty Stars – 5-6 Years:
Mighty Stars will be challenged with more advanced gymnastics concepts in a fun and positive environment.

Auburn Gymnastics Girls Beginner – 7-12 Years:
In this introductory school-aged program, gymnasts will learn the basics on all four apparatus in a positive and safe environment.

Martial Arts and Circus Arts:
Kids Beginner Karate I:
This class is an ongoing introduction to self-defense for children. Students will receive step-by-step instruction in the basics of karate. Warm-up exercises will increase fitness and flexibility, and practices will teach fundamental karate skills that develop confidence and positive personal growth. There is a one-time uniform fee of $40 due to the instructor on the first day of class.

Kids Beginner Karate II:
This class is a continuation for students who have completed the intro class, and will expand on the skills and exercises learned there.

Ninja Kids:
This class will focus on core strength, body control, team work, team challenges, and basic tumbling skills. It is a great place to start your ninja warrior career through play and fun. Classes are held at South Elite All Stars 1222 6th AVE N. Kent, WA 98023

Circus Arts Classes:
Covington Parks and Recreation has teamed up with Synapse Circus Center to provide you with the opportunity to walk a tightwire, juggle, and learn other amazing skills. In Circus Arts, you will learn balance, acrobatics, object manipulation, and so much more! Students will get to demonstrate their new skills at the End of Session Show on the last day.

No previous experience is required. Students should wear comfortable clothes that aren’t too baggy. Please no zippers or buckles. Students may go barefoot of wear socks or gym/ballet shoes. Classes are held at 309 49th ST NE, Suite C in Auburn.

Skyhawks Multi-Sport Class:
This multi-sport class is designed to introduce youth athletes to a variety of different sports in one setting. Athletes will learn the rules and essentials of each sport through skill-based games and scrimmages, while having fun and being active.

Kidz Love Soccer:
Mommy/Daddy & Me Soccer:
Introduce your toddler to the world’s most popular sport! As you and your child participate in fun, age-appropriate activities, your child will develop their large motor and socializing skills. The fun happens on the field and parents are a part of the action!

Tot & Pre-Soccer:
Enjoy running and kicking just like the big kids! Participants will earn basic techniques while building self-esteem and learning to follow instructions in a nurturing teaching environment. Shin guards are required after the first meeting.

Soccer I – Techniques and Teamwork:
Players will learn how to dribble, pass, play defense, and shoot goals! Fun skill games are played at every session and small-sided soccer matches will be introduced gradually. Shin guards are required after the first meeting.

Sports Skills Classes:
Eastside Basketball Institute Skills Class:
Why choose EBI for your child’s basketball training? One word: FUNdementals! Your child will learn ball handling confidence, shooting confidence, and all-around abilities. EBI will challenge your child, but also encourage and support them in a fun environment! With EBI, character development is as essential as individual basketball skills. Players should wear comfortable clothing.

Volleyball Clinic:
Enjoy your day off school at Covington’s Volleyball Clinic! We will practice skills such as passing setting, hitting, blocking, and serving. All skill levels are welcome. We will end the day with a scrimmage and some fun games. Each participant will receive a t-shirt. Please bring a snack, sack lunch, and a water bottle. Knee pads are required.

Winter Break Camps:
Dance Camp:
Come enjoy three days full of fun, music, and dancing! Dancers will learn to properly execute dance technique, skills, and tricks, as well as learn cute routines. We will include a variety of dance genres, such as ballet, jazz, pom, and hip hop. Camp t-shirt is included. Dancers will perform a parent showcase at the end of the last day. Pease wear comfortable clothing, and bring lots of water and a lunch.

Minecraft Jedi Adventure Lego Camp:
Mine, craft, and build the Star Wars universe using Lego bricks! Roll the dice to gather Jedi resources. Build a Pod Racer, craft a Droid, or create the Treehouse Village of Endor! This novice Play-Well game is inspired by the Minecraft tablet game and the Star Wars fantasy setting.

Minecraft Jedi Survival Lego Camp:
Mine, craft, and build the Star Wars universe using Lego bricks! Roll the dice to gather Jedi resources. Then build a Starship, craft Light Sabers, and use the Force to survive empire attacks.  This advanced Play-Well game is inspired by the Minecraft tablet game and the Star Wars fantasy setting.

Teen/Adult Recreation

Women’s Self-Defense Class:
This self-defense class is designed to make you more aware, prepared, and assertive. It will cover verbal confrontational skills, safety strategies, and physical techniques that enable you to avoid, resist, escape, and survive an attack.
