The City Clerk's Office of the Executive Department strives to make sure that city government remains efficient, accessible and consistent with applicable laws.

The Office of the City Clerk provides legislative and administrative support to the City Council. The Office of the City Clerk is responsible for overseeing preparation of agendas for City Council and Management Team meetings and records Council actions in official minutes. The processing of cable discounts, through Comcast of Washington IV, Inc., is also conducted through the Clerk's Office.

As official record keeper, the Office of the City Clerk maintains the ordinances and resolutions passed by the City Council, contracts and agreements of the City, and works with Code Publishing Company to update the Covington Municipal Code. This includes the responsibility for implementation of microfilming of archival records, destruction of records meeting their retention requirements, and optical imaging of current records, all according to the standards set by the Public Disclosure Act and the State Archivist's guidelines.
